Last week I said I would share each week, my favorite quotes from chapter one of a New Earth, that form the first two petals on my flower are:
I will start with one that relates to the flower:
Seeing beauty in a flower could awaken humans, however briefly, to the beauty that is the essential part of their innermost being their true nature."
This beautiful Strelitzia I am blessed to see each time I drive out of our garage and return.Currently they are in bloom in many of the garden where I live. I love the beauty and the individuality of these birdlike flowers.
The next favorite conjures up childhood memories of " if you are good…….. you will……."
" You do not become good by trying to be good, but by finding the goodness that is alredy within you and allowing that goodness to emerge. but it can only emerge if something fundamental changes within your state of consciousness".
This quote from page13, is something I believe deep down inside of us we all know, but we forget and life becomes too serious, as the next quote tells me.
"Life isn’t as serious as my mind makes it out to be."
This quote from page 33 makes me laugh at myself. How easy flowing and simple life can be when I let go of the mind control!
I am now going for my morning walk on the beach and I am going to practice " just walking", just being present.
This has been one the exercises suggested by Eckhart for what I describe as getting to being present
- Every time you walk up and down the stairs in your house or place of work, pay close attention to every step, every movement…even your breathing. Be totally present.
- When you wash your hands, pay attention to all the sensory perceptions associated with the activity: the sound and feel of the water, the movement of your hands, the scent of the soap and so on.
- When you get into your car, after you close the door, pause for a few seconds and observe the flow of your breath. Become aware of a silent but powerful sense of presence.
Eckhart then suggests you journal your experiences. I know these exercises are challenging for me and my multitasking mind. Also I might miss out on something:)
Please share below your experiences if you are also reading A New Earth and following this teleclass. And thank you to Tray and Pat who were both inspired from my post last week
"A new heaven" is the emergence of a transformed state of human consciousness, and "a new earth" is it’s reflection in the physical realm.
Sometimes I practice presence and it feels great. I just happen to be in the right state of mind before hand. Sometimes though my brain needs some stimulation. Just walking and being present can freak me out at times. If you listen to Ekhart on Audio he doesn’t sound like the liveliest guy in the world. I’m sure he’s feeling pretty good though.

When my first son was about 18 months I used to take him to the post box at the end of the road where we lived to mail my daily output! On the way he showed me ants, tiny flowers, spiders webs with droplets of water, cracks in walls with strange shapes — things that are always there yet are missed by 99.99% of everyone passing by. This post reminded me to take the time to just be – almost a child’s eye view of the world without the “mind” distractions. Thanks for highlighting this.
Nice quotes, Suzie 🙂
I especially like the one about life seriousness, as too many of us tend to take life too seriously…

it reminds me of the post I have on my website about sending a positive vibe out into the cosmos. Good thoughts in the moment at hand leaving behind past regrets and future concerns leads to positive action and positive results… it’s about filling your senses with the Earth’s beauty and beginning each day with an attitude of being happy you are alive and a general embrace of “the life force”… thanks for the post I digg!!
