I have one life and one chance to make it count for something . . . I’m free to choose what that something is, and the something I’ve chosen is my faith. Now, my faith goes beyond theology and religion and requires considerable work and effort. My faith demands — this is not optional — my faith demands that I do whatever I can, wherever I am, whenever I can, for as long as I can with whatever I have to try to make a difference. – Jimmy Carter
Tracy Turnblad, played by Nikki Blonsky in the movie Hairspray, demonstrated the power of faith and showed in more than one way how she was able to make a difference.
Tracy says in the movie: “People who are different their time is coming” Tracy knew what it was like to be different, as she is short and plump.
We went to see this movie on Saturday. I had seen a trailer on television just before it was released. It looked like it would provide humor, music and dance. That it did.
What I hadn’t anticipated was that this was a feel good/inspirational movie where the faith and actions of one person, Tracy Turnblad, was able to create radical change. As well as achieving her dream of dancing on the Corny Collins Show Tracy took a stand and racial integration on this show, was the outcome.
If you haven’t seen the movie, give yourself a treat, the music is great, as is the cast.
You can watch a trailer here and there is also a Hairspray Blog
